Dr. Ornella Weideli, born in Bern in 1986, holds a Master's degree in Animal Biology from the University of Basel. During her studies, she investigated the feeding behavior of young lemon sharks in the Bahamas. Her doctoral research took her to the Seychelles and French Polynesia, where she explored the ecological niches of young reef sharks. At the Soneva Fushi resort in the Maldives, she was responsible for a coral restoration project.

Early in her academic career, Ornella became deeply involved in science communication. As a speaker and tour guide for diving trips, she travels the world to promote a better understanding of these endangered predators among the public. She has published her research in numerous scientific journals, presented at international conferences, and appeared on the four-part SRF series "Water Worlds" and the television program "Aeschbacher," among others.
